Visit Permit: Business Visa and Tourist Visa and Other Visas

Foreigners who intend to enter and stay in Indonesia for purposes which are not considered “work activities” can apply for a visit permit. By far the most visit permits are issued based on either a business visa or a tourist visa. Foreigners can also obtain a visit permit for a variety of other purposes of visit.

Types of Visa

A foreigner can obtain a visit permit based on the following types of visa:

  1. Single entry visit visa. This permit will allow the foreigner only to enter Indonesia once. This single entry permit is valid for a maximum period of 60 days.
  2. Multiple entry visit visa. This permit will allow the foreigner to enter Indonesia for multiple times during a period of maximum 12 months. Each visit based on the multiple entry permit is limited to a maximum period of 60 days.
  3. Visa on arrival. This permit will allow the foreigner to stay inside Indonesia for a maximum period of 30 days.
  4. Entry without Visa. Certain countries may obtain a a visit permit without a visa.

Business Visa

The term “business visa” is used in Indonesia to define the visit visa which is issued to foreigners who intend to perform business meetings in Indonesia. Foreigners who are working outside Indonesia and wish to enter Indonesia to perform business meetings with clients or affiliated companies in Indonesia are required to obtain a business visa. Foreigners are allowed to perform business meetings in Indonesia based on:

  1. a single entry business visa;
  2. a multiple entry business visa; and
  3. entry without Visa. Certain countries may obtain a a visit permit for business purposes without a business visa.

Tourist Visa

Foreigner is traveling to Indonesia can use:

  1. Visa on Arrival, for a maximum period of 30 days, which can be extended for another 30 days;
  2. Entry without visa for certain countries, maximum 30 days, without extension.

Other Purposes of Visit

Besides business and tourist purposes, a visit permit is also issued for a variety of other purposes of visit, such as attending seminars, undergoing training, attending exhibition, family visits, purchase activities, and others. Which type of visa applies, depends on the type of visit purpose.
